The COVID-19 emergency has meant adapting to changes in multiple areas of life, and running races are no exception. They have gone virtual, and in one recent event, Arrotek’s Jake O’Regan came out on top, helping to raise money for the Alzheimer’s Society of Ireland in the process.
The event was the Grant Thornton Virtual GT5K Challenge, organised by Athletics Ireland. It took place on the weekend of 14-16 August.
Those taking part had to run their best 5k over the weekend, submitting their time via an app on their phone or their GPS watch to see where they finished on the leader board.
Eight members of the Arrotek team took part in the challenge, along with hundreds of other individual competitors and teams from across the country.
The overall winner at the end of the weekend was our own Design Engineer Jake O’Regan, who finished the 5k in an impressive time of 14 minutes 20 seconds. This time would have been fast enough to win any of the GT5K events that took place in various cities across Ireland in 2019.
Well done Jake!
